Pair of 19th Century Walnut Stools with Berlin Needlework covers.

9,500.00

An extremely rare pair of exhibition quality walnut cabriole leg stools each bearing its original Berlin Needlework cover.
The style of the stools, the complexity of the needlework and the inclusion of glistening cut steel and glass beads indicates the period of The Great Exhibition of 1862;  by, and retaining the label of, the noted cabinet makers F. Danby of Leeds. Francis Danby ran a business from Upper Head Row (now The Headrow), which also made the seats and fittings for the Council Chambers in Leeds Town Hall. According to the 1871 census Francis employed 14 men and 2 boys.
