Pair of George II period side chairs of American Walnut.
A remarkably handsome pair of George II period side chairs of American walnut.
Each with a triple-pierced formalised vase-on-pedestal profile back, the sides terminating in a boldly drawn scroll supported by the outer column uprights, over a straight rail drop-in seat on well-formed cabriole legs terminating in pad feet and topped with a deep scroll at the knees replicating the back. The turned ‘H’ stretchers have an unusual serpentine curve to the centre part with a straight bar to the back.
The date of circa 1730 - 40 is confirmed by chairs with similar shape and motifs.
