A rare 18th century Scandinavian silver gilt Punch Ladle.

£1,250.00

An extremely rare and luxurious 18th century Scandinavian silver gilt Punch Ladle, the hemispherical bowl decorated with an engraved laurel leaf border below a moulded and reeded lip around a central foliate spray. Inscribed by minute wrigglework a monogram JB.   The original ebony handle retaining its delicately turned finial.  There are reassuring signs of wear to the underside of the bowl where it has rested when not in use and those commensurate with the action of drawing punch from bowls of silver, glass or porcelain, and more often with a right hand.

Mid to late 18th century.

Length: 14½” (37cm) Bowl diameter: 2¾” (7cm) Bowl depth: 1.5” (3.3cm)
